Foundation Laid for ₹39.62 Crore Science Park and Planetarium in Agra; Project to be Completed in 18 Months

Agra/Lucknow:Marking a major step in advancing scientific learning and digital innovation, Uttar Pradesh’s third state-of-the-art Science Park and Planetarium is set to come up in Agra, following similar projects in Lucknow and Gorakhpur. The foundation stone for the ₹39.62 crore project was laid in a grand ceremony held at Kothi Meena Bazaar Ground, behind the ACP Loha Mandi office.

The event witnessed the presence of Minister of Science and Technology Anil Kumar, Minister of Higher Education Yogendra Upadhyay, and Union Minister of State (MP) Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, who jointly inaugurated the project through a Bhoomi Pujan and Havan ceremony, symbolizing the formal beginning of construction. The project, expected to be completed within 18 months, will allow students to explore the world of astronomy and modern science through interactive and experiential learning.

A New Era of Scientific Learning

Science and Technology Minister Anil Kumar highlighted that the Agra Science Park will be a cornerstone in promoting Digital India, bringing the latest technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Cybersecurity to students and the public.
“This will be the third high-tech Science Park in Uttar Pradesh. Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Science Parks will soon be developed in every divisional headquarters of the state,” he announced.

The minister added that the Science Park will include an Indian Science Heritage Gallery, Fun with Science Gallery, and exhibitions reflecting India’s historical contributions to Mathematics, Medicine, and Engineering. These will feature interactive modules and NCERT/CBSE-based experiments to make science education engaging and accessible.

Integrating Culture, Science, and Employment

Minister of Higher Education Yogendra Upadhyay, who previously headed the Science and Technology Department, shared insights on the project’s journey from conception to implementation. “The detailed project report was prepared during my tenure and approved by the Chief Minister before being cleared by the Cabinet,” he said.

He further stated that the land for the project, earlier under the Basic Education Department, was officially transferred to the Department of Science and Technology, paving the way for construction. “The Science Park will not only serve as a hub for modern education but will also open new avenues for employment and skill development,” Upadhyay noted.

He also revealed plans for a Chhatrapati Shivaji Memorial in Agra, which, along with the Science Park, will give the city “a new identity” as a destination that blends culture, history, and scientific progress.

Boosting Education and Scientific Tourism

Union Minister of State Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel termed the project a milestone for Agra’s youth, emphasizing its potential to strengthen science education. “The establishment of the Planetarium will allow students to delve into the mysteries of astronomy, making learning a fascinating experience,” he remarked.

Baghel added that the initiative would not only enhance scientific curiosity but also promote educational tourism, creating new job opportunities for local youth and fostering a culture of innovation and discovery.

A Vision for the Future

During the ceremony, Pandhari Yadav, Principal Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, welcomed the dignitaries and presented mementos as a token of appreciation.

The Agra Science Park and Planetarium are envisioned as dynamic centers that will merge technology, creativity, and curiosity, empowering students to engage with the core pillars of Digital India. Once completed, the park will serve as a symbol of Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to nurturing scientific temperament and positioning Agra as a hub for modern science and innovation.
