Lieutenant General J. Debnath Takes Over as Officer-in-Charge of AMC Centre & College

LUCKNOW: Lieutenant General J. Debnath assumed charge as the Commandant of Army Medical Corps (AMC) Centre and College, and Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of AMC Records on 01 August 2026.

Prior to this appointment, Lt Gen Debnath was serving as Major General Medical (MG Med) at Headquarters Eastern Command.

The AMC Centre and College, based in Lucknow, is the premier training institution of the Indian Army. The institute is responsible for training and grooming future leaders of the Army Medical Corps, and for upholding the highest standards of military medical education and professional excellence.

Profile of Lt Gen J. Debnath
An alumnus of Silchar Medical College, Assam, Lt Gen Debnath is a distinguished radiologist with specialized training in CT and MRI.  

During his 36-year career, he has served in clinical, academic, operational, research and administrative roles across the Armed Forces Medical Services.

He has held several prestigious command, staff and instructional appointments and has made significant contributions to patient care, medical education, healthcare administration and military medicine.  

His extensive experience in leadership and institution building has established him as a skilled clinician, teacher and administrator. The General Officer has earlier commanded Command Hospital, Central Command, Lucknow. He also served with distinction as the Editor-in-Chief of the 'Medical Journal Armed Forces India' (MJAFI) for nearly four years.

As Commandant of AMC Centre & College and OIC of AMC Records, Lt Gen Debnath will lead the Corps’ flagship training institution toward strengthening professional military medical education, promoting innovation in training, encouraging research, and enhancing leadership development.

His vision is expected to further reinforce the Army Medical Corps’ commitment to excellence in medical services, operational preparedness and human resource development.
