War Museum and Convention Centre to Come Up in Nehru Enclave, Lucknow

Lucknow set to get a major hub for defence heritage, military history, tourism and modern conferences

LUCKNOW: Gomti Nagar’s Nehru Enclave will soon house an Army War Museum and a world-class convention centre. The project, pegged at around Rs 125 crore, aims to give Lucknow a new identity in defence heritage, military history and tourism, while also positioning the city as a key destination for modern conferences and events.

The proposal was prepared by the Lucknow Development Authority on the initiative of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Under the plan, the Army will transfer 33.97 acres of land currently under its physical possession to the LDA.

Land use breakup  
Of the total land:  
- 12.87 acres will be used by LDA to build the War Museum and Convention Centre  
- 14 acres will be developed as a green belt  
-7.10 acres will be earmarked for commercial and mixed-use plots. Revenue from the sale of these plots will fund the construction of the museum and convention centre

LDA Vice Chairman Prathamesh Kumar said a meeting on the proposal was held with the state government on Thursday. Once formal approval is received from the Army, LDA will complete construction within 2 years. The authority will also manage and operate the complex after completion.

What the War Museum will showcase  
The museum will present the glorious history of the Indian Armed Forces using modern technology. Visitors will experience key chapters through digital exhibits, projection mapping, interactive displays and advanced audio-visual systems.

Major exhibits and galleries will cover:  
- World Wars I and II
- India’s wars: 1947-48, 1962, 1965, 1971 and Kargil  
- Modern operations: Operation Sindoor, Balakot, Uri and Siachen  
- Achievements of the Navy and Air Force
- Indian military traditions and evolution of warfare systems

Facilities for visitors and youth
Beyond the galleries, the complex will include:  
- A state-of-the-art convention centre for national and international events  
- 270-degree immersive auditorium  
- Open-air exhibition of defence equipment
- Helicopter and tank simulators  
- Digital interactive zone
- Military memorabilia centre

Officials said these facilities are designed to inspire youth to consider careers in the Indian Armed Forces by giving them a direct, engaging experience of military life and technology.

Impact on the city
According to LDA, the War Museum and Convention Centre is expected to boost tourism, create jobs, attract investment and strengthen Lucknow’s local economy. With its mix of heritage, education and modern infrastructure, Nehru Enclave is being positioned as a landmark that connects Lucknow’s past military legacy with its future as a conference and tourism hub.
