‘Rachanadrishya’ Explores the Emotional Landscape of Human Relationships Through Powerful Theatre
Lucknow: Theatre lovers witnessed an evening of compelling storytelling and evocative performances as Bhartiyam and Shivanjana Entertainments presented Rachanadrishya, a double-bill featuring the acclaimed plays "Thes" and "Aparichit", at the Buddha Auditorium, International Buddhist Research Institute, Gomti Nagar.
Produced by Rajeev Ranjan Singh, both plays were written by Ashutosh Shukla and directed by veteran theatre practitioner Gopal Sinha, whose nuanced direction transformed the narratives into emotionally resonant stage experiences.
The evening was graced by Pawan Singh Chauhan, Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, as the Chief Guest. A significant highlight of the programme was the felicitation of eminent Hindi litterateur Padma Dr. Vidya Bindu Singh and distinguished theatre personality Padma Shri Dr. Anil Rastogi by Puneet Asthana, Founder of Bhartiyam, in recognition of their exceptional contribution to literature, theatre and India's cultural heritage.
The first production, "Thes", unfolded as a poignant exploration of sacrifice, unconditional love, trust and dignity within the framework of an Indian family. Rather than merely narrating a woman's story, the play delved into the silent emotional wounds that often remain unspoken yet profoundly shape human lives. Through understated storytelling and emotional depth, the production portrayed the resilience of a woman who places the happiness of her family above her own, reminding audiences that while time may heal many wounds, certain emotional scars endure for a lifetime.
The second play, "Aparichit," adapted by Radheshyam Soni from Ashutosh Shukla's original work, presented a thought-provoking examination of identity, science, family values and human relationships. The arrival of an unexpected visitor disrupts the life of an ordinary family, raising questions that transcend logic and challenge conventional notions of kinship. The play ultimately invites audiences to reflect on whether relationships are shaped by biological ties or by love, trust, compassion and shared values.
The performances by Rupali Chandra, Rajeev Ranjan Singh, and Rajeev Tripathi received an enthusiastic response from the audience. Their finely nuanced portrayals, expressive dialogue delivery and commanding stage presence brought authenticity and emotional depth to every scene. Rather than simply enacting their roles, the actors inhabited their characters with remarkable conviction, creating performances that continued to resonate long after the final curtain.
With Rachanadrishya, Bhartiyam and Shivanjana Entertainments reaffirmed theatre's enduring relevance as a powerful medium for social reflection and emotional engagement. By presenting stories rooted in human values and contemporary dilemmas, the production celebrated not only the richness of Indian theatre but also the timeless strength of empathy, relationships and shared humanity.
