Gomti Banks Set to Transform Lucknow’s Identity by 2035

The face of Uttar Pradesh’s capital is set for a dramatic transformation as the proposed Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region (UP-SCR) plan envisions large-scale redevelopment along the Gomti riverfront in Lucknow. Inspired by the NCR model around Delhi, the ambitious blueprint aims to go far beyond cosmetic beautification, positioning the Gomti banks as a major hub for tourism, culture, wellness, recreation, and public life.

Cultural and Heritage Corridor in Phase One (2027–2032)

The first phase, proposed between 2027 and 2032, focuses on developing an approximately 11.5 km stretch from NH-230 to Acharya Narendra Dev Marg. This zone will include the transformation of Prerna Sthal and adjoining areas into a city forest and a vibrant cultural hub.

The plan includes a heritage promenade, cultural plaza, open-air exhibition spaces, sculpture gardens, and a dedicated memory wall. In addition, cultural ghats, interpretive walkways, river decks, floating fountains, and water gardens are proposed to enhance the riverfront experience.

To boost night-time appeal, the corridor will feature soft, non-intrusive lighting and sound zones. Authorities also plan to create designated public spaces for cultural performances, exhibitions, and recreational activities, aiming to strengthen tourism and local economic activity.

Wellness and Sports Hub in Phase Two (2030–2035)

The second phase, scheduled from 2030 to 2035, will extend development from NH-24 to the Outer Ring Road, covering nearly 7.75 km. This segment will be developed as a wellness and sustainability park integrated with a green corridor.

Plans include indoor sports facilities, open playing courts, eco-trails, promenade spaces, and even a stargazing zone. The corridor will also connect key urban landmarks such as the Gomti Barrage, Lohiya Path, and Ekana Stadium, ensuring seamless access through modern riverfront infrastructure.

Special emphasis has been placed on creating pedestrian-friendly walking zones and expanding green public spaces across the stretch.

Integrated River Connectivity Plan

A unified Gomti river corridor is also proposed, linking Ashok Marg, Hanuman Setu, Gomti Barrage, and Lohiya Path. Officials believe this integrated network will significantly improve intra-city connectivity while turning the riverfront into one of Lucknow’s most important public destinations.

Anupganj ROB Nearing Completion

Meanwhile, construction work on the Anupganj Railway Over Bridge (ROB) between Gosainganj and Mohanlalganj on the Lucknow–Sultanpur rail section is progressing steadily. All pillars have been completed, and deck construction has begun from the Baliyakheda side.

The ROB will start near Baliyakheda in the Gosainganj area and descend near Shivaler towards Mohanlalganj. Service lanes are also planned on both sides of the bridge, with land acquisition underway at select points. The overall project has achieved around 58% completion.

Heavy Rail and Road Traffic Pressure

The Anupganj crossing witnesses the movement of over 100 trains daily along with more than 30,000 vehicles.

Relief for Over Three Lakh Residents

Once completed, the bridge is expected to benefit more than three lakh residents across Gosainganj, Mohanlalganj, and surrounding localities, significantly easing daily commute and improving regional connectivity.
