Lucknow witnessed an inspiring confluence of science and ambition as astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla energized young researchers at the closing ceremony of a two-day Summer Plant Science Festival. Held at the National Botanical Research Institute, the event brought together nearly 200 research scholars, showcasing innovation, creativity, and scientific curiosity.
The festival concluded with Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, an Ashok Chakra awardee from the Indian Air Force, as the chief guest. The event featured a detailed presentation by scholars highlighting the activities and achievements of the festival. Competitions such as digital photography, oral presentations, and poster sessions provided a platform for participants to present their research and ideas.
Welcoming the guests, Director Dr. Ajit Kumar Shasany emphasized the vital role of research scholars, calling them the backbone of any scientific institution. He encouraged them to pursue innovative and transformative research that contributes meaningfully to national progress.
Addressing the gathering, Shubhanshu Shukla captivated the audience with his experiences from space. Reflecting on the breathtaking view of Earth from above, he urged participants to recognize the planet’s value and work towards its preservation. He highlighted how scientific research must ultimately serve humanity by addressing real-world challenges.
Sharing insights from his journey to the International Space Station, Shukla spoke about experiments conducted in microgravity, including studies on microalgae. He explained how the absence of gravity changes even the simplest tasks, offering unique opportunities for scientific discovery. His experiences underscored the importance of space research in advancing knowledge and innovation.
Encouraging a scientific mindset among youth, he stressed the need to make science more engaging and accessible. “To take India to new heights, we must first elevate our dreams,” he said, leaving the audience inspired. Reiterating his message, he added, “The sky should have no limits—not for me, not for you, and not for India.”
Meanwhile, a meditation session was organized at the institute’s botanical garden to promote mental well-being and focus among participants. Conducted by Rajneesh Mishra of Complete Cure Healing and Meditation Institute, the session highlighted the role of mindfulness in enhancing creativity and scientific productivity.
The festival concluded with a vote of thanks, marking not just the end of an event, but the beginning of renewed ambition among young researchers determined to push the boundaries of science.
