Vivekananda Hospital Performs Its First Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery

Lucknow: Vivekananda Hospital has achieved a significant medical milestone by successfully performing its first robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery, marking a new era of advanced, precision-driven orthopaedic care in the region.

The pioneering procedure was led by Dr. Uttam Garg, Senior Consultant, Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement Surgery, along with his dedicated surgical team. The advanced robotic system used in the operation allowed for unprecedented accuracy in implant placement, resulting in improved outcomes, faster recovery, and reduced post-operative pain for the patient.

“This technology enables us to plan and execute surgery with remarkable precision,” said Dr. Uttam Garg, who led the team. “By using real-time data and 3D imaging, we can tailor every procedure to the unique anatomy of each patient, ensuring optimal joint alignment and long-term success.”

The robotic system assists surgeons in mapping the patient’s knee with sub-millimetre accuracy before and during the procedure. Unlike conventional techniques, robotic-assisted knee replacement minimizes bone and soft tissue trauma, leading to shorter hospital stays, quicker rehabilitation, and better functional outcomes.

“We are proud to bring this world-class technology to our patients,” said Swami Muktinathananda, secretary, Vivekananda Polyclinic & Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow. “This milestone underscores our commitment to offering cutting-edge healthcare solutions and making advanced medical technologies accessible to our community.”

The successful completion of this surgery establishes Vivekananda Hospital as a regional leader in robotic joint replacement surgery, reaffirming its mission to combine compassionate care with medical excellence.
