India Shines, U.P. Soars: Modi’s 11, Yogi’s 8, a Win-Win Story

Over the past 11 years, the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre and the 8-year tenure of Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh have transformed India and its most populous state into beacons of progress, governance, and economic growth. This "double-engine" governance model, as coined by Prime Minister Modi, has delivered unprecedented development, aligning with the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and a resurgent Uttar Pradesh. Through bold reforms, infrastructure projects, and welfare schemes, both governments have redefined governance, earning praise for their commitment to service, security, and inclusive growth. As Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated, “With the inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the collective efforts of 25 crore citizens, Uttar Pradesh is moving forward on the path of transforming from a ‘Shram Shakti Punj’ to an ‘Arth Shakti Punj’ of India.”

Modi Government’s 11-Year Journey: A National Transformation

Since assuming office in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has steered India toward global prominence with initiatives like Make in India, Digital India, and Ayushman Bharat. His government’s focus on infrastructure, healthcare, and economic reforms has lifted millions out of poverty and positioned India as a $3.7 trillion economy, with ambitions to reach $5 trillion. The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, launched in 2015 in Panipat, Haryana, has empowered women by addressing the declining child sex ratio, while the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has provided over 2 crore homes to the underprivileged.

Modi’s leadership during crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, showcased India’s resilience. The development of indigenous vaccines and the Vaccine Maitri initiative, which supplied vaccines to neighboring nations, earned global acclaim. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh remarked, “The Modi Government’s 11 years are marked by bold decisions and futuristic reforms.” The Ayushman Bharat scheme, covering over 50 crore people, including 10 crore in Uttar Pradesh, has revolutionized healthcare access, with senior citizens above 70 receiving free coverage up to ₹5 lakh under the Vay Vandana Yojana.

Modi’s vision extends to spiritual and cultural rejuvenation. The Namami Gange project has revitalized the Ganga River, benefiting 40% of India’s population. Speaking in 2014 at Madison Square Garden, Modi said, “If we are able to clean it, it will be a huge help for the 40 per cent population of the country.” The inauguration of 44 projects worth ₹3884.18 crore in Varanasi in 2025 underscores his commitment to his constituency.

Yogi Adityanath’s 8-Year Tenure: Uttar Pradesh’s Remarkable Turnaround

Since 2017, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has transformed Uttar Pradesh from a state labeled “BIMARU” (sick) to an economic powerhouse. His government’s focus on law and order, infrastructure, and industrial growth has doubled the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) to ₹27.51 lakh crore by 2024-25. Yogi’s crackdown on crime has reduced the state’s crime rate below the national average, earning him the moniker “Bulldozer Baba” for his tough stance against lawbreakers.

Infrastructure development under Yogi’s leadership is unparalleled. Uttar Pradesh now boasts six expressways, with 11 more under construction, and leads India in the number of airports, including the upcoming Jewar airport. The state’s agricultural sector has seen a growth rate rise from 8.6% to 13.7%, making it the largest producer of fruits and vegetables, with over 4 crore tonnes annually. Under the PM KUSUM scheme, 76,189 solar pumps have empowered farmers, while 27 modernized mandis ensure better price realization.

Yogi’s welfare initiatives align with Modi’s vision. Over 2.62 crore toilets built under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan have improved rural hygiene, and ₹10 lakh crore transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) has uplifted beneficiaries. Yogi noted, “Uttar Pradesh, which was known as the bimaru state, has today become the growth engine of the Indian economy.” The state ranks first in food grain, sugarcane, and potato production, as well as in schemes like PM Awas Yojana and Ujjwala Yojana.

The Double-Engine Advantage

The synergy between Modi and Yogi has been a game-changer. Projects like the Defence Industrial Corridor in Jhansi and the world’s largest smartphone manufacturing factory in Noida, inaugurated in 2018 with Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in, highlight this collaboration. In 2025, Modi praised Yogi’s efforts, saying, “He has tirelessly worked to transform UP across sectors.” Yogi reciprocated, stating, “Under your successful guidance, Uttar Pradesh is moving steadily on the path of achieving the concept of ‘Developed India – Developed Uttar Pradesh’.”

The Vikas Utsav honored farmers, youth, women, and artisans, showcasing a decade of central and eight years of state achievements. The Mahakumbh 2025, attended by over 3 crore devotees, reflects the state’s organizational prowess under Yogi’s leadership.
