From Mobile Manufacturing to Semiconductors: UP Becomes India’s Electronics Capital

Noida Drives India’s Tech Manufacturing Hub, Accounts for 65% of Country’s Mobile Phones

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh has rapidly emerged as a global electronics manufacturing hub, producing nearly 65 percent of all mobile phones made in India. Anchored around Noida and Greater Noida, the state’s robust industrial ecosystem has positioned UP as a key driver in making India a global technology power.

According to the Information and Public Relations Department, Uttar Pradesh, global brands including Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, and LG operate alongside major OEMs and ODMs such as Dixon Technologies, Optiemus, Padget Electronics, Zetwerk (Zetown), and Bhagwati Products, the parent company of Micromax.

Leadership in Components and Consumer Electronics  
The state has also become the backbone of India’s electronics component manufacturing, contributing approximately 55 percent to the country’s total output. Companies like Samkwang, Holitech, KHY, Khvatec, Minda Corporation, JWorld, Shinsung C&T, LCE, Transsion, Sunwoda, and Dreamtech are manufacturing critical components including PCBAs, displays, and capacitors.  

With expansions by major players like Haier and Panasonic, Uttar Pradesh is further strengthening its position in consumer electronics manufacturing.

Policy-Driven Growth and Investment
State officials credit forward-looking, investment-friendly policies for this growth. The Electronics Manufacturing Policy 2017, its amendments in 2020 and 2022, and the Uttar Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy 2025 have collectively attracted investments of over Rs 28,000 crore from more than 75 companies.

UP has also made significant strides in semiconductor manufacturing, securing approved investments worth Rs 32,146 crore. The flagship project is the HCL-Foxconn display driver chip plant being set up near Jewar.

Record Export Surge  
The Industrial Development Department reported a sharp rise in electronics exports. In 2015, exports were negligible. By FY 2022-23, they reached USD 2.58 billion, accounting for 16.65 percent of India’s total electronics exports.  

Mobile devices manufactured in Uttar Pradesh played a major role in India’s USD 28.45 billion electronics exports in FY 2023-24. In FY 2024-25 alone, smartphone exports from the state touched USD 17.5 billion, reflecting rapid global expansion.

Digital Ecosystem and Infrastructure Support
The industrial growth is backed by a strong digital ecosystem. Uttar Pradesh operates over 1.85 lakh Common Service Centers delivering more than 314 e-governance services. The state also has a fast-growing consumer base of over 24 crore smartphone users, fueling domestic demand.

With world-class infrastructure, excellent connectivity, a strong logistics network, and skilled workforce, Noida has developed dedicated clusters for mobile phones, LED TVs, electronics components, consumer electronics, and lithium-ion batteries. It is now a core center of India’s high-tech manufacturing ecosystem.

Focus on Future Technologies  
The Uttar Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy 2025 and Semiconductor Policy 2024 are providing fresh momentum to the state’s electronics, mobile, and chip manufacturing ecosystem.  

Looking ahead, the state is accelerating strategic investments in Industry 4.0 areas including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, Drones, Automation, and Advanced Electronics. Officials say these initiatives will drive innovation, deepen UP’s integration into global supply chains, and create large-scale employment opportunities.

With this momentum, Uttar Pradesh is set not only to lead India’s electronics manufacturing sector, but also to play a decisive role in positioning India as a global technology power.
