Illegal Signages to be Removed from Hazratganj Market, LDA Vice Chairman Orders Strict Action

Lucknow Development Authority will remove all illegal signage boards from Hazratganj Market as part of a renewed drive to enforce the façade control guidelines and restore uniformity to one of the city’s busiest commercial areas.

LDA Vice Chairman Prathamesh Kumar conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing development and beautification work in Hazratganj on Thursday and issued strict directions to officials after finding that several signboards were still in place in violation of the prescribed standards, even though the notice period given to shopkeepers had already expired. Expressing displeasure over the delay, Kumar directed the concerned departments to initiate immediate action and ensure that every signage board is redesigned and installed according to the approved norms so that the entire market presents a cohesive look.

During the inspection, the Vice Chairman also reviewed the drainage situation in the lanes adjoining the main Hazratganj market. Noting persistent waterlogging in these stretches, he ordered that all local drains be properly connected to the main sewer line to prevent flooding during rains and to improve sanitation for both shoppers and traders.

Kumar later visited Naza Market, where he found encroachments on common areas and pedestrian pathways outside some shops. He instructed officials to issue notices to the shopkeepers involved and to get the illegal occupation cleared at the earliest so that the walkways can be restored for public use.

The Vice Chairman also inspected the beautification work at Maharishi Supanch Park located near the Nagar Nigam office. Pointing out that the park witnesses heavy footfall because of the large number of food and beverage outlets in the surrounding area, he said proper seating arrangements should be made for visitors. To make the space more attractive to tourists, he suggested that slogans related to food and dining be displayed within the park as part of the beautification theme.

Officials accompanying the Vice Chairman have been asked to submit a compliance report on the removal of illegal signages, drain connectivity, and encroachment clearance within the next few days.
