SGPGI celebrated 30th Convocation Day with traditional fervor
The 30th Convocation of SGPGIMS was celebrated on 14th July 2026 in Shruti Auditorium of the institute. The function was organized under the chairmanship of the Hon'ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Visitor, SGPGI, Smt Anandi Ben Patel Ji.
Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Cabinet Minister, Medical Education, Medical Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Brijesh Pathak Ji, and Secretary, Medical Education & DG, Medical Education and Training, Mrs. Neha Sharma also graced the ceremony.
The function started with the arrival of the academic procession with traditional grandeur. Hon’ble Governor, Uttar Pradesh Smt. Anandiben Patel declared the convocation formally open.
The welcome address was delivered by Mrs. Neha Sharma, IAS, Secretary & DG Medical Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Prof RK Dhiman, Director, SGPGI, presented the institute’s progress report and it’s vision of next five years. (Report Attached)
This was followed by the convocation sermon and the oath administered by the Director to all the degree awardees. All the degrees were virtually uploaded in the Digi locker by the Hon’ble Governor.
13 faculty Members/Residents were acknowledged for their contribution towards excellence in research or clinical activities. Professor S S Agarwal, Professor S R Naik, Professor R K Sharma awards, Dr. Sabyasachi Sarkar award, awards for maximum patents and maximum intramural and extramural grants were given to the most deserving candidates by the Hon’ble Governor, Smt Anandi Ben Patel. This year, for the first time, the institute's most outstanding faculty member was honored with the 'Governor's Gold Medal' based on various rigorous evaluation criteria. Dr. Narayan Prasad was felicitated with this award by the Hon’ble Governor, Smt. Anandiben Patel.
Two books were also released by the Governor, which include:
1. 1. Essentials of Breast Surgery: A handbook for trainees and surgeons
By Prof. Sabaretnam Mayilvaganan, Department of Endocrine Surgery and Prof. Gaurav Agarwal, HOD, Endocrine Surgery
2. 2. From Hope to Healing: A Practical Guide to Transplant System in India
By Professor Rajesh Harshvardhan, HOD, Hospital Administration
This was followed by a motivational story on the role and invaluable place of mother in our life and Gujarati folk dance, presented by the school children of the villages adopted by SGPGI, which was highly appreciated by the audience. These Children were rewarded by the Hon’ble Governor.
Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, UP Shri Brijesh Pathak congratulated the award winners for their hard work and perseverance. Addressing the pass-out students, he said, “You must remain true to the oath you have taken upon receiving your degrees throughout your professional lives. Always regard your patients as God and serve them with compassion, dignity, and dedication”.
This was followed by the felicitation of Mrs. Harshita Tiwari, Deputy SP, Behraich, and Shri Sunil Kumar Dhanvanta, Chief Development Officer, by the Hon’ble Governor by presenting them HPV Vaccination Certificates. Hon’ble Governor also presented kits to 5 Aanganwadi workers.
Hon’ble Governor Smt Anandi Ben Patel congratulated the award winners and degree awardees of 30th Convocation. Speaking on the occasion, she said that SGPGI is making its mark across India and the world. However, while celebrating our achievements, we must also recognize our shortcomings and continuously strive for improvement. Special emphasis has been placed on strengthening the Anganwadi system. The HPV vaccination program must also be further strengthened to protect the health of future generations.
The Hon'ble Governor also spoke about the importance of Arogya Mandir and the Aayushman Bharat Scheme in ensuring accessible and equitable healthcare.
“Our goal should be to achieve the top position in national rankings within the next year by working with dedication, innovation and excellence, “she said.
Director SGPGI Prof R K Dhiman felicitated the dignitaries on the dias by presenting them potted plants. The 279 pass-out students in different categories were awarded degrees by Executive Registrar Col Varun Bajpai, Dean Professor Shaleen Kumar and Director Prof. R K Dhiman.
