Uttar Pradesh CM Interacts with Sugarcane Farmers, Announces Historic ₹30/quintal Price Hike for 2025-26 Crushing Season
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday interacted with sugarcane farmers at his official residence and announced a historic increase of ₹30 per quintal in the sugarcane price for the 2025-26 crushing season. He extended greetings to the people of the state on Gopasthami and congratulated farmers on the price hike.Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said, “If the annadata (food providers) farmers are prosperous and happy, the country will continue to progress on the path of development.” He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership over the past 11 years for putting Indian farmers on a new trajectory of prosperity.CM Adityanath highlighted that the state government has increased sugarcane prices by ₹85 per quintal over the past eight-and-a-half years, directly benefiting farmers. “The state government’s goal is to ensure farmers get fair prices for their produce under all circumstances,” he added.Key Achievements in Agriculture SectorIrrigation Expansion: Over the last eight years, an additional 23 lakh hectares of land has been brought under irrigation. Projects like Arjun Sahayak, Bansagar, and Saryu Nahar, pending for years, have been completed with central support.
Power Relief: Electricity bills for 16 lakh private tubewells waived.
Sugar Industry Revival: 122 sugar mills now operational (up from 108–110 in 2017).
42 mills have expanded capacity; 4 new mills established.
Co-gen plants, distilleries, and ethanol units set up; mills now function as integrated sugar complexes.
Sugarcane cultivation area expanded from 20 lakh hectares to nearly 30 lakh hectares.
Farmer-Centric Procurement: Direct purchase at MSP from registered landowners.
Online slip issuance system introduced, eliminating middlemen and malpractices.
Record Payments: Over ₹2.92 lakh crore paid to farmers since 2017 (vs ₹1.37 lakh crore from 2007–2017).
105 mills clear payments within a week.
Central Schemes Benefiting UP FarmersPM Kisan Samman Nidhi: ₹6,000 annual assistance to 12 crore farmers nationwide.
Soil Health Cards, PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana, PM Fasal Bima Yojana, and One Nation One Market initiatives rolled out.
In 2017, UP waived loans up to ₹1 lakh for 86 lakh small and marginal farmers.
Vision for FutureThe CM urged progressive farmers to adopt high-yield varieties and technology to achieve yields up to 2,600 quintals per hectare.
