JAY SHAH INAUGURATES THE FIRST-EVER ICC-APPROVED CRICKET ARENA IN TANZANIA

Dar es Salaam — ICC Chairman Jay Shah inaugurated the Tanzania Cricket Arena, the country’s first venue to receive official approval from the International Cricket Council. 

The opening marks a major milestone for cricket in Tanzania and across the continent, giving the East African nation a world-class facility that meets ICC standards for hosting international matches.

Addressing the gathering, Shah congratulated Cricket Tanzania and credited years of planning and community support for the project.

"Congratulations to Cricket Tanzania on the opening of the Tanzania Cricket Arena – a landmark moment for cricket in Tanzania and across Africa. It was an honour to officially inaugurate this terrific new facility, the first ICC-approved cricket arena in the country. The venue is a testament to the vision, dedication and hard work of everyone involved in growing the game in Tanzania," Shah posted on his social media handles.

Cricket Tanzania officials said the arena will serve as the home base for national teams and will be used to host ICC regional tournaments, development programs, and grassroots initiatives aimed at expanding participation in schools and communities.

The ICC’s approval of the venue is expected to accelerate infrastructure growth in Associate nations and provide African teams with more opportunities to play on home soil under international conditions.

Shah’s visit underscores the ICC’s focus on developing cricket beyond traditional markets, with Tanzania becoming the latest Associate member to secure a certified international venue.
