Uttar Pradesh Government Takes Steps to Strengthen Drug Control Mechanism

Lucknow, October 24: In a significant move to ensure the quality of medicines and safeguard public health, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the state government to strengthen the drug control mechanism in Uttar Pradesh.

The Chief Minister has instructed the creation of a new post of 'District Drug Control Officer' in every district to strengthen the drug control system at the district level. This move is expected to improve the monitoring and regulation of pharmaceutical products in the state.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister has directed that the number of Drug Inspectors be doubled, and their recruitment be done through a written examination instead of an interview to make the process more transparent and fair. This move aims to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the drug inspection system in the state.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is committed to ensuring the quality of medicines and protecting public health. He directed that the recruitment of Drug Inspectors be done in a time-bound manner and that they be deployed in every district to ensure effective supervision and inspection.

The meeting was informed that the department currently has 109 Drug Inspectors, which is inadequate as per the standards of the Government of India. The Chief Minister directed that the drug inspection system in the state be brought in line with national standards.

The Chief Minister also discussed the reorganization of the Drug Control Cadre and directed that the number of Deputy Commissioners (Drugs) be increased and the eligibility criteria for promotion to the post of Joint Commissioner (Drugs) be revised.

The Chief Minister instructed that clear qualifications and standards be set for the post of Drug Controller and that a fixed tenure be determined for the post to ensure leadership and accountability at the top level of the system.

These measures are expected to strengthen the drug control mechanism in Uttar Pradesh and ensure that the state's population has access to quality medicines. The state government's commitment to improving the drug inspection system is a welcome step towards protecting public health and promoting the well-being of the people of Uttar Pradesh.
